Musculoskeletal (MSK) Injections Sydney
Musculoskeletal (MSK) Injections are a pain management procedure performed by one of our Radiologists. They are a quick treatment that can provide immediate and long-lasting pain relief for a wide range of conditions. The MSK injections are performed under precise image guidance across multiple Sydney clinics, ensuring safe, effective and convenient care close to home.

Our musculoskeletal (MSK) injections are designed to help manage pain and discomfort caused by a wide range of conditions. These image-guided procedures can target problem areas with precision and provide effective relief when other conservative treatments may not be enough. We commonly use MSK injections to assist with the following conditions:
- Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) – a condition that causes stiffness and pain in the shoulder joint.
- Bursitis – inflammation of the bursae, the small fluid-filled sacs that cushion bones, tendons and muscles.
- Arthritis (osteoarthritis) – joint degeneration that can result in persistent pain and reduced mobility.
- Tendinosis/Tendinopathy (e.g. trigger finger) – tendon irritation or thickening that can lead to pain and movement difficulties.
Please note that all MSK procedures require recent prior imaging. This step is essential to ensure that our Radiologists have the most accurate and up-to-date information available, allowing them to perform the procedure safely, effectively and to the high standards we maintain across all of our services.
How to prepare for a MSK injection
In most cases, no special preparation is needed before your musculoskeletal (MSK) injection. You can eat and drink as normal, and continue your daily activities right up until your appointment.
If you are taking blood thinning medication (anticoagulants) such as warfarin, aspirin, or similar, it is very important to notify our reception team when booking. This information allows our Radiologists to plan your care safely and may require a short review of your medication history before the procedure.
We also recommend that patients:
- Bring any recent imaging studies (X-ray, CT, or MRI) if these were not performed at our clinic.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing to allow easy access to the injection site.
- Consider bringing a support person if you feel more comfortable, although in most cases you will be able to travel home independently after the procedure.
