Guided Biopsy Sydney

A guided biopsy is a minimally invasive procedure used to obtain tissue samples using real-time ultrasound imaging. One of our highly experienced Radiologists will guide a small needle into the area to take a sample. This is commonly used to evaluate abnormalities in organs such as the breast, thyroid, liver, and lymph nodes. The procedure is typically performed under local anaesthesia, involves minimal discomfort.

Guided biopsy is a safe and accurate way to assist with diagnosis while avoiding the need for more invasive surgery.

How to prepare for a guided biopsy

In most cases, no special preparation is needed before a guided biopsy in Sydney.

How much does a guided biopsy cost?

All guided biopsies have a $90 gap. The samples are sent off to a pathology lab which can incur a cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

The length of the appointment depends on the complexity of the guided biopsy; they usually take between 20-30 minutes.

There is no radiation involved in guided biopsies. With some breast biopsies, we place a marker using a mammogram machine, which does have ionising radiation but most services which fall under interventional radiology have little risk.
